Children's book week

November 4-10 is National Children's Book Week. Families all around the U.S are celebrating the enjoyment of reading.

Here are five fun and easy steps from Scholastic to help your child build reading stamina and fall in love with books:

Create a Cozy Reading Space

Set up a special reading nook that your child will love! Think soft blankets, cuddly stuffed animals, and warm lighting to make it the perfect spot to dive into a book.

Establish a Reading Routine

Pick a regular time each day—whether it’s morning, evening, or bedtime—when your child can enjoy reading. This helps turn reading into a fun habit!

Track Reading Progress

Use a calendar or create a monthly reading tracker together. Visual aids can really motivate your child as they see how much they’re reading.

Chat About the Book

Have some fun discussions about what your child is reading! Talking about stories can make reading even more enjoyable and helps them connect with the characters and themes.

Encourage Choice

Let your child choose what they read! This encourages them to explore their interests. At Clear Creek Elementary School, kids are encouraged to pick two types of books: a “Growth Book” to learn new things and a “Dessert Book” that’s just for fun!

Check out the article at Scholastic Parents for more information on how to put these steps into action this November!
