PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE:

Welcome to Shelby County High School, home of the Rockets! Whether you are a parent, student, staff or community member, we value you as part of our SCHS family. As the start of the 2009-10 school year begins, there are indeed a number of changes at SCHS; such as this being the last year of having only one high school in Shelby County. One thing that will never change, however, is our love and commitment to our students and our school.  Shelby County High School’s mission is to enable all students to attain their highest level of academic performance, to achieve critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and to develop the ability to work interactively to launch students into responsible and productive citizenship in the 21st century. SCHS administrators and teachers guide students in growing not only mentally, but also emotionally and socially to transition them into successful adults.

Parents: One way you can help is to be involved. Although you may think your children don’t need you like they did in elementary and middle school, they need you now more than ever to be a part of their lives. Communicate. Ask your children about what happens at school and with their friends. Don’t settle for “nothing.” Also, communicate with your child’s teachers via phone or email. Use the parent portal on Infinite Campus to check grades.  Believe in your child and have high expectations.

Students: Share your experiences with your family. Tell them about your teachers, what you are learning at school, and what you do with your friends. Become involved in a club, activity, or sport. Enjoy the best years of your life! We look forward to teaching and learning with you this school year. Students, remember that teachers and parents aren’t the only ones who have high expectations for you. Hold high expectations for yourself.

Remember: The only dreams impossible to reach are the ones you never pursue!
We at SCHS encourage your involvement and cooperation in blasting off to a successful school year!

Sincerely,
Eddie Oakley
Principal
